Europe’s robots to become ‘electronic persons’ under draft plan

“After all–aren’t we genuine European workers?”

The motion is quoted as saying ““that at least the most sophisticated autonomous robots could be established as having the status of electronic persons with specific rights and obligations”.

Reuters reports that “It also suggested the creation of a register for smart autonomous robots, which would link each one to funds established to cover its legal liabilities. “

Of course part of the reasoning seems to be that if mass automation went underway, then making factories pay robots would make humans more competitive, and thus more likely to be able to get a job.

As it mentions though, likely this wont become a full bill for another decade at least, maybe longer, depending on a variety of factors.

About Logan

Hi, I'm currently working on Speakable Programming for Every Language (SPEL), to allow humanity to collagorate together in creating a General-Intelligence Operating-System (GI-OS), which can eventually aid in giving robots support for human reincarnation, thus allowing us to colonize the other planets in our solar system and the cosmos. Meanwhile I am authoring sci-fi stories to help share my vision of the future, and teaching meditation and quantum animism to provide a belief system and set of practices compatible with the oncoming future. Stories regarding my blog content have been covered in the Daily Mail, Business Insider and Technocracy News. Thank you all for helping spreading the word.
